Volunteer Commitment

Each STARSkate family is required to complete a minimum of five (5) volunteer hours per season in order to have the $250 Volunteer Commitment fee waived.

  • Volunteer hours must be completed by the end of the season and may not be carried forward. Extensions will only be granted at the discretion of SMFSC
  • Volunteers must sign up using the name associated with their skater’s account to ensure proper tracking
  • Only completed and fulfilled volunteer shifts will be credited
  • Skaters aged 16 and older may complete volunteer hours on behalf of their family

Please note:

  • Program Assistants (CanSkate) receive volunteer hours for high school credit only; these hours do not count toward the volunteer commitment
  • Failure to complete the required hours will result in the $250 fee being processed

Volunteer Expectations

To ensure a fair and positive experience for all volunteers and participants, the following expectations apply:

  • Volunteers must be 16 years of age or older, unless otherwise approved by SMFSC
  • Volunteers must arrive on time and remain for the full scheduled shift
  • Volunteers are expected to remain in their assigned role and complete all duties for the duration of their shift
  • Leaving early, failing to complete assigned duties, or not fulfilling responsibilities may result in volunteer hours not being credited
  • Volunteers should sign up for only one position at a time to ensure fair access for all members; multiple bookings may be cancelled without notice
  • Volunteers are responsible for ensuring they are signed up correctly and understand the requirements of their selected shift

Important: Volunteers must remain engaged in their assigned duties for the full shift. Supervising children, leaving early, or stepping away for personal errands is not permitted. Failure to meet expectations may result in volunteer hours not being credited.
